Beja brings case vs water district board to Ombudsman

DISMISSED Cagayan de Oro City Water District (COWD) general manager Engineer Rachel Beja's fight is far from over as she brings her case against the water district board of directors to the Office of the Ombudsman.

In an interview, Beja said she is suing the water facility's board of directors for terminating her in "bad faith" and for abuse of authority.

She described her dismissal last February 28, as tainted with bad faith apparently effected without due process.

The former general manager said they are preparing the charges that will be filed this month. Beja is represented by lawyer Mary Camille Perez-Quililan.

This move will be the second legal action Beja is set to undertake to contest the board of directors' decision to fire her.

Last month, Beja has petitioned the Civil Service Commission to review the board's decision, hoping that the commission's decision will reinstate her as general manager.

"The Ombudsman will hopefully sanction them (board of directors) or whatever that will be," she said.

Beja said she is not taking her termination lightly since being general manager was her only means of livelihood.

Last February 28, the COWD board of directors terminated Beja supposedly for being disrespectful, resulting in the board’s "loss of trust and confidence" in her.
