Biantan: Extend Dooley’s contract please

IN A report released by the Philippine News Agency (PNA) on Saturday, Azkals coach Thomas Dooley said that he will be caught off guard if the Philippine Football Federation (PFF) changes its direction and will not give him another two-year contract extension.

He is however optimistic that he will stay as the Azkals coach although nobody from the PFF has approached him yet to offer an extension.

Dooley has been the most successful Azkals coach ever. In his four years reign as the national team coach, he set 11 records including their recent AFC Asian Cup qualification which is set next year at the United Arab Emirates.

The Azkal nation is now anxious if Dooley stays or not. It will be a very busy year ender for them this year and in January, as the meeting with the big boys of Asia will kickoff in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

This early the PFF and Azkals manager Dan Palami should now make up their mind and decide. The best man to prepare the Azkals for UAE is still Dooley. His reign with the Azkals was not perfect but who could argue with success.

Palami is already looking forward on who will he get to play for them in December for the Suzuki Cup. He needs coach Dolley to set his plans on the drawing board.

The Philippine Women’s National football team the other night scored a shocking 2-1 come from behind win over host nation Jordan in the AFC Asian Cup in Amman. The Malditas need only to win one match to advance to the semis.

They will clash with powerhouse China on Monday and then against Thailand on April 12.

The other teams in Group B are Japan, Australia, South Korea and Vietnam. The top two teams in each group will advance to the semis. Winners will then play in the final and losers gun for the third place.

This is a very important tournament for the Malditas as the top five teams in this competition will advance to the Fifa Women’s World Cup next year in France.

The Malditas just need one win and they are off to France. If will be tough to win over China and Thailand but it is not impossible. It would be great for Philippine football for the Malditas to play in the Women’s World Cup and for the Azkals to play in the Asian Cup next year. If these happen then we will definitely be in the golden age of Philippine football.
