Mother killed, daughter, 3, wounded in home attack

A 44-YEAR-OLD mother was killed while her 3-year-old daughter was wounded when an unidentified assailant barged inside their home in Sitio Sto Niño, Barangay Hippodromo after midnight Friday.

Sophia Manto, a balut vendor, and her daughter were sleeping at 12:45 a.m. when an unknown gunman forced his way inside their rented two-storey house and shot them.

The armed man damaged the door, which was made of plywood, to gain entry and shot the victims.

Manto died on the spot, while the girl suffered a gunshot wound because of a stray bullet and was rushed to a nearby hospital.

The mother succumbed to a gunshot wound in her stomach while her daughter sustained an injury on her left leg.

Residents in the area heard three gunshots before they discovered Manto’s lifeless body.

Her own daughter and two sons who rushed home upon hearing what happened identified the victims to the authorities who responded to the incident.

Police recovered an empty shell of a caliber .45 pistol from the scene.

Authorities are eyeing a personal grudge as the motive behind the shooting. (JOB)
