City Hall suspends two workers caught for drugs

THE two Cagayan de Oro City Hall employees arrested in separate drug busts on Saturday, April 7, will be suspended from work during their detention.

“As part sa atong (of our) standard process flow sa nadakpan sa drug ops (of those who were arrested during drug bust operations), concern department will formally endorse sa (to the) HR (Human Resource) by Tuesday (April 10) with supporting data from PNP (Philippine National Police)/PDEA (Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency) sa iyang arrest, kay immediately during sa (of their arrest, since immediately during the) detention, declared automatic suspension ang employee,” said City Administrator Teodoro Sabuga-a Jr.

Sabugaa said the apprehended employees’ records will be frozen, its salary will not be released, and they will not earn their leave credits during the time of their detention.

On Saturday, police pounced on Nelson Remotigue, an active member of the Roads and Traffic Administration, who was caught in the act of using methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu.

On the same day, Jeofrey Sierra, a current Metro Aide 1 of the City Public Services Office, was nabbed for selling drugs.

At present, Remotigue and Sierra are detained at the Maharlika headquarters of the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office.

Sabuga-a said they will refer to the legal office for possible administrative case without prejudice in the criminal case filed against Remotigue and Sierra.

“If maka-bail, refer sa HRMO (Human Resource Management Office) sa Head of Office nga back to work after ma-present proof of release and bail (If they can bail, we will refer them to the Head of Office’s HRMO to get them back to work after presenting the proof of release and bail),” Sabuga-a said.

The city administrator also mentioned that Remotigue and Sierra will be referred to the Oro Wellness for assessment and corresponding intervention after the verification.

“Meaning two things approach: (1) legal procedure for administrative case and (2) will help intervention program/rehabilitation,” Sabuga-a said.

The city has been subjecting its 6,119 employees to random drug tests since last year and the City Government has allocated around P1.2 million for the mandatory and an unannounced drug testing.
