Landslides block road in Talisay City

MOTORISTS plying from Talisay City’s hinterlands had a difficult time getting to the lowlands after two landslides hit a portion of Barangay Manipis, Talisay City starting last Sunday.

The Talisay City Government has recommended motorists living in the city’s mountain barangays to use alternative routes as they are conducting clearing operations in the area.

Alvin Santillana, Talisay City’s local disaster risk reduction and management officer, told SunStar Cebu the landslides started occurring at 8 p.m. last Sunday in Sitio Languyon in Manipis.

Though no one was hurt during the landslide, a portion of the road which leads towards Toledo City has been blocked off by debris, preventing motorists from passing there.

Santillana said he immediately contacted the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), who is conducting a road expansion project in the area, to help clear the debris.

DPWH’s contractor was able to clear the debris in the area at 11 a.m. on Monday when another landslide occurred at 2 p.m. this afternoon.

Santillana said he is coordinating with the city governments of Toledo and Cebu to warn motorists passing by the area other roads to get to their destinations.

For motorists from Cebu City going to Manipis, they can use an access road from Barangay Sinsin.

While motorists from Cebu City going to Toledo City can use the Naga-Uling Access Road to get to their destination.

Santillana assured the route will be cleared of debris by tomorrow morning, April 10. (JKV/SunStar Cebu)
