Diocese to reactivate Pastoral council for Barangay, SK polls

FATHER Chris Gonzales, head of the Social Action Center of the Diocese of Bacolod said, Bishop Patricio Buzon would like to reactivate the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) for the May 14 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) or Youth Council elections.

Gonzales said the diocese has already informed the national PPCRV office about its plan to reactivate it.

It was deactivated in the previous polls.

Gonzales said the plan of the bishop would be taken up during the recollection of the priests under the diocese on April 17.

Different coordinators in every parish would also be discussed, he added.

PPCRV is a non-partisan, non-sectarian non-profit organization affiliated with the Roman Catholic Church in the Philippines that works to ensure free, fair and fraud-free elections in the Philippines.

The organization has been the “citizen’s arm” of the Commission of Elections since 2010. PPCRV conducts the Unofficial Parallel Count of returns after the election.

PPCRV's activity includes advocating for electoral reforms, conducting parallel manual auditing in automated elections, coordinating parishes to conduct poll-watching, providing legal assistance related to elections, reporting of electoral violations, providing voters' assistance services and voters' education.

Gonzales said that the parameters of the PPRRV's activities would also be discussed as the election is only more than a month away.
