Korean brothers with diving shop in Mactan arrested for fraud

AGENTS of the Bureau of Immigration (BI) have arrested in Mandaue, Cebu City two Korean brothers wanted in Seoul, South Korea for fraud.

The fugitives, identified as Choi Sunghyun, 32, and Choi Sungmin, 35 were arrested last Friday, April 6, in their house along A.S. Fortuna St. in Mandaue City by members of the BI fugitive search unit (FSU).

BI-FSU chief Bobby Raquepo said the brothers were able to open and operate a diving center business in Punta Engaño on Mactan Island in Cebu.

Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente said the brothers face deportation, based on information provided by the Korean embassy that Choi Sunghyun defrauded complainant victim on eight occasions.

He allegedly received from his victim a total of 360 million won after convincing the latter to invest in his business with the promise of a three-percent profit.

His brother Choi Sungmin meanwhile is wanted for defrauding his victims of US$40,000 in a non-existent business venture.

u200bBoth siblings are the subjects of red notices from the Interpol as they are both wanted by the Korean police for the said crimes.

Morente said the fugitives will be sent back to Korea as soon as the BI board of commissioners issues the summary deportation order against them. (SunStar Philippines)
