Fiba coach happy of NBA's return

THE only licensed International Basketball Federation (Fiba) coach from Negros Occidental Ricky Magallanes is happy for the return of Negros Basketball Association (NBA).

The former point guard at the University of St. La Salle Ricky Magallanes, who is now based in the US and the only known registered Fiba coach from this part of the country, thanked the people behind its comeback after some 15 years hiatus.

This is what Bacolod is waiting, he added.

“NBA is one of the pillars for most Bacolodnon basketball players. I hope this is the new beginning of 2nd comeback and not the last. Seeing the pictures of 2018 NBA opening flashes back to my memory the competition and the players during our time,” Magallanes said.

The Fiba coach was doubly elated after seeing the pictures shared on Facebook by his friends whom he played with before and are still enjoying playing the game.

The NBA President's Cup which opened April 8 is played on weekends and holidays. The nine teams participating in single round robin elimination, the knock out quarterfinal and semifinal format is estimated to end May 27.

The top two teams will have a twice to beat advantage in the semifinals. Number three and six and number four and five teams will play in the knockout quarterfinals.

The winner between 3 and 6 goes up against number 1 and the 4 to 5 survivor will challenge number 2.

Leading at 2-0 card is Red House Taiwan Shabu Shabu (UNO-R) while Negros Occidental Private Schools Sports Cultural Educational Association champion Colegio de Sta. Ana de Victorias (Silver Dragon) is at 1-1.
