Marvil: Incentives for private parking lots

DUE to the perennial problem on parking spaces, Committee on Public Works chairperson Councilor Maria Mylen Victoria Yaranon has proposed to give incentives for private individuals who could convert their vacant private-owned lots within the city which are idle into parking spaces.

In her proposal, the lady councilor stated that even the City Planning and Development Office identified parking as one of the needs of the city.

The city which is one of the premier tourist destinations in the country has very limited public land that could be used as parking areas.

Likewise, it has limited resources to construct multi-level parking buildings. Tourists who frequent the tourist destinations in the city like Burnham Park, Baguio Botanical Garden, Wright Park and Mines View Park end up wasting most of their time just trying to look for parking spaces.

With this, and with the City Council having the authority to give tax incentives, Councilor Yaranon therefore urges private land owners to cooperate in converting their properties into parking spaces to avail of such incentive.

The Joint Public Consultation by the Committee on Urban Planning, Lands and Housing, Committee on Public Works and Committee on Public Utilities, Traffic and Transport Legislation regarding the Multi-Level Parking Facility at Burnham Park which was previously scheduled last April 06, 2018 (Friday) will be held Wednesday, April 11.

Several proponents and private developers will be given the chance to present their plans and designs for the said planned development in the area. An open forum will be conducted after the presentations which will start at 8 a.m. at the Multi-Purpose Hall of Baguio City Hall.
