POLICE trainee Emmanuel Melana Dumapig was looking forward to becoming a full-pledged policeman and enjoying the high pay that policemen now enjoy.
But he will most likely land in jail instead, for accidentally killing his mother, Emma Dumapig, in their home in Barangay San Roque in New Corella town in Davao del Norte last week.
Chief Inspector Milgrace Driz, spokesperson of Police Regional Office (PRO) in Davao Region, said criminal and administrative charges were already filed against the suspect.
She added that the latter is now under the custody of the New Corella Municipal Police Station.
Dumapig is facing criminal charges for reckless imprudence resulting to parricide and an administrative case for grave misconduct.
Police said the suspect was dry firing his handgun, but he was unaware that his gun was loaded.
The younger Dumapig pulled the trigger and the bullet pierced the wall and hit his mother who was inside the bedroom.
The victim succumbed to a lone gunshot wound in her right chin. She was pronounced dead at the Bishop Joseph Reagan Hospital in Tagum City.
