7 rebels charged with arson for torching heavy equipment

A CASE of arson has been filed against seven suspected New People’s Army (NPA) members accused of burning road-building equipment of a construction firm in Talaingod, Davao del Norte last April 3.

Chief Inspector Milgrace Driz, Police Regional Office (PRO 11) spokesperson for Davao Region, said the case was filed on April 10 at the Provincial Prosecution Office in Tagum City, Davao del Norte in a regular filing with NPS Docket No XI-03-INV-180-00088 duly signed by Christy Theresa Bernadette A. Dureza, associate attorney.

The suspects were identified as Joe Almendras alias Jose, Dalagis Balite alias Carlos, Enting Mansumiat alias Steb; Lugib Tasan alias Bagani; Enting Tumbasay; Rommel Tausan, and Laro Manlologpis, alias “Wacky”, all residents of Talaingod.

They have been identified as members of the NPA.

The incident transpired in Sitio Banualay, Barangay Palma Gil, Talaingod, Davao del Norte and involved one unit of backhoe owned by Ulticon Builders Incorporated (UBI).

It was perpetrated by a group of fully armed men after the company refused to give in to their extortion demand.

UBI is undertaking road widening projects and constructing farm-to-market roads connecting the provinces of Bukidnon and Davao del Norte, a flagship program of the government.
