Bomb explodes in housing project site

AN IMPROVISED bomb has exploded in a housing project site in Isabela City, Basilan province, the police said Thursday, April 12.

Superintendent Restituto Pangusban, Isabela City police chief, said the incident occurred at 8:07 p.m. Wednesday at Sitio Processing in Sumagdang village.

Pangusban said no one was either killed or wounded in the explosion of the improvised bomb that was placed underneath a pay loader of the land developer, engineer Mike Solongan.

Solongan is undertaking development works for housing projects on the properties owned by Hadji Haber Aboiong and Hadji Nur Jaratul at Sitio Processing.

The police chief said the blast did not cause major damage on the heavy equipment since it was categorized as low order detonation.

He said that the explosive ordnance demolition personnel have recovered from the blast site damaged cellular phone, improvised blasting cap, a cooking pot that serves as the bomb container and a tin can in the conduct of the post-blast investigation.

Pangusban said the land developer informed them that they did not receive any extortion letter since they started the project six months ago.

He said investigation continues in a bid to establish the motive as well as identify the suspects behind the incident. (Bong Garcia)
