Up to 6k to attend youth camp in Tagum

AROUND 4,000 to 6,000 campers are expected to attend the Worldwide Youth Camp in Tagum City this April 16 to 17.

This camp will take place at E-Park, and will be handled by the South Korean-based International Youth Fellowship (IYF).

The expected participants are campers aged 15 to 30 who will come from school-based, barangay-based, church-based organizations, young professionals groups, and Indigenous Peoples/Muslim youth groups.

Some 150 South Koreans will also gather together to perform and to be part of the program.

According to Noli Tacay, camp director for the World Youth Camp, Tagum City was chosen to host this event because the South Koreans saw that the city can accommodate a lot of participants during the 6th Asean Boy Scouts Jamboree last year.

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) and the National Youth Commission rally the local government units and youth organizations throughout the country to send youth participants for the camp.

A memorandum was issued by DILG officer-in-charge Eduardo Año urging all provincial governors, city and municipal mayors, as well as DILG regional, provincial and city directors to sponsor and grant financial assistance to youth participants.

The youth camp will have a P1,500 registration fee which will cover the meals, t-shirt, workbook, ID, and certificate of participation.

Tacay assured that the committee is ready in terms of security. The Philippine National Police, Philippine Army, and City Security Office will be in charged for securing the event.

The IDs that will be used in the camp will contain barcodes made by the Koreans to ensure that only registered participants can enter the venue.

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed by the IYF founder Ock Soo Park and the city government of Tagum Mayor Allan L. Rellon. (Yvonne C. Masloc, Father Saturnino Urios University Intern)
