Mindanao Peace Games leadership meeting in May

THE Mindanao Peace Games (MPG) 2018 will kick off with a quarterly leadership meeting next month at the Ateneo de Davao University (Addu) in preparation for its whole-year round program of creating leaders and providing beyond sports experience to aspiring leaders.

MPG convener Noli Ayo, who is also the athletics director of Addu, in Thursday's Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum held at the Annex of SM City Davao, said the quarterly leadership meeting will be attended by the sports leaders of the 14 MPG member schools in Mindanao who will also finalize the complete set of programs for 2018.

"We will also sit down with prominent leaders who will be able to inspire our aspiring leaders and coaches," Ayo said, who is rooting for Rio Olympics weightlifting silver medalist Hidilyn Diaz to grace the meeting.

Ayo said the quarterly meeting in May will be followed by the 3rd Discovery Suites leadership program that will be hosted at the Discover Suites in Ortigas, Metro Manila.

“We invited four new schools to join the leadership program. If they show up they will probably become our new members,” Ayo said, pertaining to Compostela Valley State College, Notre Dame of Jolo College, Ramon Magsaysay Memorial College of General Santos City and Claret College of Isabela, Basilan.

MPG, according to Ayo will then go to Father Saturnino Urios University (FSUU) in Butuan City which is MPG 2018’s host city for its traditional Leadership Summit for athletes.

“We will be sending team captains to join the Leadership Summit that will have group dynamics, talks on effects of leadership that will be capped with a formal dinner to emphasize the beyond sports experience aspiration of MPG,” he said.

In August, they will hold their first-ever MPG Coaches Convention.

“We already had 24 coaches’ meeting for the past years and instead of going to different places like the past meetings, we plan to bring them all together in one coaches’ convention,” Ayo added.

The MPG 2018 games will open in October in FSUU in Butuan City.
