Ucan backs Ceneco not paying undelivered power supply

THE Utilities Consumers Alliance of Negros (Ucan) expressed its support to the Central Negros Electric Cooperative (Ceneco) in not paying the undelivered power supply of Energreen Power Development and Management Corporation.

Ucan legal counsel Vicente Petierre III said on April 12 that in March, the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) ordered them to submit their comment within 60 days on the case filed by Energreen against Ceneco.

He said in 2016, Energreen sought the intervention of the ERC after Ceneco questioned the payment for undelivered power supply.

In 2013, Ceneco and Energreen signed an agreement that Energreen will provide 18.9 megawatts (MW) power to the electric cooperative within a 15-year period which Ucan opposed.

“We are supporting Ceneco because Energreen only acts like a broker and they do not have a capacity to deliver 15 MW of power supply which is happening now,” Petierre said.

He said he will talk with Fr. Ernie Larida, president of Ucan, and they strongly opposed the move of Energreen to collect the undelivered power to Ceneco.

“They are forcing Ceneco to pay even though their plant is not working so it’s really unfair,” Petierre stressed. (MAP)
