Cocpo to tap security guards in anti-criminality drive

CAGAYAN de Oro City's police chief has directed all police station commanders to tap security guards to effectively deter crimes in their respective areas of responsibility.

Cagayan de Or City Police Office (Cocpo) Chief Nelson Aganon said security guards made the statement following the recent robbery incidents in the city.

"Know your enemy should be the word of the day. I have instructed station commanders to identify the enemy in their respective areas of operation," Aganon said.

Aganon also directed the station chiefs to coordinate with all security guards of every establishments and village security officers under their jurisdiction and make them as source of information.

The city police director wants all station commanders to intensify ground intelligence by maximizing these security guards.

Cocpo spokesperson Superintendent Mardy Hortillosa II said station commanders who do not shape up and deliver may be relieved from their posts.

He said station chiefs should be result-oriented and must have a working relationship with stakeholders in the communities to prevent criminality.

Hortillosa said robbery suspects in the recent incidents do not belong to an organized group as revealed by their preferred method of committing the robberies.

It can be recalled that few convenience stores were robbed in a separate cases last week.

Hortillosa said one of the suspects was later identified and charged in court while authorities are still identifying the other suspects.
