Filing of COC starts today

THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) is accepting the certificates of candidacy (COC) starting Saturday, May 14, for the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections.

Bacolod City Election Registrar Mavil Majarucon-Sia said the filing of COCs is until April 20.

She added they are also open on Sunday, April 15.

She said the aspiring candidates should comply all the formal requirements to avoid disqualification.

She added the COC should be on long size band paper with passport size photo, documentary stamps and it should be notarized.

The candidate for village chief or member of the Sangguniang Barangay must be a citizen of the Philippines; a registered voter in the barangay where he intends to be elections; a resident therein for at least one year immediately preceding the day of the election; able to read and write Filipino or any other local language or dialect; and at least 18 years old on Election Day.

The candidate for SK chairman or member of the SK must be a Filipino citizen between 18 to 24 years old; a qualified voter of the SK; a resident of the baragay for at least one year immediately prior to election; able to read and write Filipino or any other local language or dialect; must not related within the second civil degree of consanguinity or affinity to any incumbent elected national official, or to any incumbent elected regional, provincial, city, municipal or barangay official in the locality he seeks to be elected; and must not have been convicted of any crime involving moral turpitude.

Majarucon-Sia said she was informed that there was a shortage of documentary stamps in Bacolod, but they will still accept the COCs without documentary stamps but it should have an attachment of an official receipt.

The campaign period will start on May 4 to 12 while May 13, a day before the elections, would be a rest day.

Majarucon-Sia reminded the candidates not to post campaign materials in public utility vehicles because it is a violation of the law and it's a ground for disqualification.

Campaign materials should be posted on identified common posters areas and should wait for the campaign period.
