No date set yet for NCCC demolition

THE Davao City Building Official (CBO) is yet to receive any update on when the management of the NCCC will commence the mall demolition.

Engr. Cirinia Grace Catubig, officer-in-charge of the CBO, told SunStar Davao on Saturday that possibly the mall is still preparing for the demolition as the procedure entails the use of heavy equipment.

She said the office has issued a demolition permit last February 20, which gives go signal for the mall management to start within the year a demolition to be conducted in a period of 30 days.

The permit also directs the demolition to commence only after the building has been vacated and all utility lines such as electric, gas, telephone, water installations have been disconnected.

Based on previous reports, the immediate demolition was recommended for the safety and also to prevent people to scavenge in the area.

Last December 23, a fire erupted at the call caused by a suspected electric short-circuit.

Bureau of Fire Protection assessed that the entire was totally damaged except the ground floor.

At present, a fence was already in place in the area. It was earlier reported that the NCCC mall management is still waiting for the submission of the Bureau of Fire Protection Report to the Department of Interior and Local Government, to decide or to schedule the date of the demolition.

Thea Padua, NCCC spokesperson and public relations manager, told SunStar Davao yesterday that they have not scheduled any demolition yet since the management is yet to receive the copy of the report.
