Former village official, family survive gun attack

A FORMER village official, who is eyeing to make a political comeback on the upcoming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections, and his family survived a gun attack in the province of Zamboanga del Sur, the police reported on Sunday, April 15.

Chief Superintendent Edwin De Ocampo, deputy regional director for administration, said the incident occurred around 9:45 p.m., Saturday, April 14, at Purok Sidlak in the village of Capisan, Tabina, Zamboanga Del Sur.

De Ocampo identified the would-be victim as Marioa Sajulga, 44, a businessman and a former village chief of Matin-Ao, Pitogo in the same province.

De Ocampo said investigation showed that Sajulga was fixing the battery of the vehicle parked in front of his warehouse while his family were inside when the gunmen arrived and opened fire.

He said fortunately the suspects missed their targets and nobody was either killed or wounded during the incident.

He said the suspects fled towards a ravine area near the warehouse of the Sajulga family.

He said the responding policemen have recovered 42 empty shells of M-16 Armalite rifles from the crime scene.

He added that investigation continues in a bid to identify the suspects behind the incident. (SunStar Philippines)
