100 pupils have no classroom after fire

OVER 100 students will have no classroom for the meantime, after fire hit six classrooms at Baguio Central Elementary School in Baguio District in Davao City on Saturday afternoon, April 14.

Initial report obtained from the Baguio Police Station showed that the fired started from one of the classrooms about 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. The fire damaged overall six classrooms.

Personnel of the Baguio police station led by Senior Inspector Merlito Tubog immediately responded the incident and contacted the Central 911 for assistance as fire hit other rooms.

Members of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in Calinan arrived at around 3:00 p.m. followed by the Central 911 and control the fire around 3:30 p.m.

At least six classrooms of the Grade-5 and Grade-6 students were totally burned. The cause of fire was electrical short circuit. The estimated damage pegged at P100,000.

The BFP-Davao City District recorded 122 fire incidents from January to March this year, which is higher as compared to the 90 fire incidents registered in the same period in 2017.

BFP-Davao deputy head of the Investigation Section Senior Fire Officer 2 Ramil Gillado earlier reported a 35-percent rise in the number of fire incidents here during the first quarter of this year compared to the same period last year.
