Editorial: Beyond expectation

THE 25th Panaad sa Negros Festival has again proved to be one of the sought-after festivities in the country.

During the opening of its silver edition on Saturday, thousands of Negrenses and guests gathered at the Panaad Park and Stadium in Barangay Mansilingan, Bacolod City.

This year’s theme is “Panaad@25: The Promise Fulfilled.”

On its opening day, Panaad sa Negros garnered a total sales of P2.188 million. It is higher compared to last year with P1.9 million.

The figure comprised the generated income from LGU pavilions, organic agriculture fair, livestock and dairy fair, trade fair and exhibit, eco-garden show, food park, and food kiosks.

Dubbed as “festival of all festivals,” Panaad features the festivals of the 13 cities and 19 towns in Negros Occidental every summer.

It also showcased an array of themed pavilions of 32 localities that highlights their history, arts, culture, commerce, trade, and industry.

Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. said this year’s staging is beyond expectation.

The provincial government has established permanent structures at the Panaad stadium, which will complement the LGU pavilions.

The governor said they will open Panaad year round for tourists.

Panaad sa Negros Festival is now a Hall of Famer in the Pearl Awards after it was hailed as Best Tourism Event in the provincial festival category last year.

The province won the award for three consecutive years, 2014 to 2016, and in 2008.

The festivity, with the surge on its opening day sales, only shows the economic gains of the province in the past year.

Panaad Festival will run until April 22.

Happy Panaad!
