Injury mars Davraa booters' campaign

VIGAN, ILOCOS SUR - An injury marred Davao Region Athletic Association's (Davraa) Palarong Pambansa 2018 secondary boys football campaign here that resulted to a 2-4 defeat to Northern Mindanao (NMRAA), 2-4, Sunday at the Pagsanaan Pitch.

The loss came from a rousing 5-0 opening victory over Central Luzon Saturday.

Davraa coach Alex Adolfo said, "Na-down ang team tungod sa nahitabo nga naay injury sa ilang kauban (The team was affected by the injury of a teammate)."

He was pertaining to defender Alvin Panaug of Philippine College of Technology who hurt his left leg in a reported collision with another player from Central Luzon.

"Dili na sya makabalik dula kay nabali man iyang tiil, medyo naay epekto kay makimpang ang team sa depensa. Dako kaayo ang gamit nya kay naa man sya sa first 11 (He could not play as he broke his leg, it would affect our team's defense. He is part of our first 11)," Adolfo said.

Panaug's parents, according to Adolfo, were already informed of the incident. The parents will decide whether to send their son home to Davao City or keep him here and go home with the rest of the delegation.

Adolfo said, "Dili man musugot ang delegation na padugayon ang operation (The Davraa delegation does not want to delay the operation)."

Panaug, as of on Monday, was still at the hospital.

Davraa was set to play against National Capital Region Athletic Association (NCRAA) as of Monday presstime at the President Elpidio Quirino Stadium. Adolfo said the boys are ready and will try to focus on the game.

"Maningkamot lang ta kutob sa makaya, mag-pray ta (We will play the best we can, we will pray too)," he said.

Davraa only reached the quarterfinals last year.

In elementary football, Davraa eked out a 4-0 shutout win over Caraga while its elementary girls volleyball team succumbed to 20-25, 18-25 loss to NCRAA.
