JOBS that support the “Build, Build, Build” program of the government make up the top four in-demand local jobs in Davao Region as April 13, said Department of Labor and Employment (Dole) Davao representative.

Marlito D. Ayala, Dole Davao focal person, said the most in-demand local job in Davao Region now is the mason with 1,205 vacancies recorded, it was then followed by carpenters with 528 vacancies, tile setter with 402 vacancies, and rebarman or steelman with 144 vacancies.

“It is interesting to note that for this year, construction-related works take the lead in our in-demand jobs. Last year it was call center jobs. Although customer service jobs are still in the top 10, it doesn’t anymore the most in-demand in Davao Region,” said Ayala.

Sales representative job vacancies come at 5th with 130 vacancies. It was followed by service crew with 130 vacancies, customer service representatives with 70 vacancies, foreman with 70, technical support representatives with 60, and management trainee with 54 vacancies. This creates a total of 2,766 vacant jobs reported to Dole Davao Region for the most in-demand jobs.

With this, Dole Davao, together with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Davao will once again conduct their “Trabaho, Negosyo, Kabuhayan” (TNK) Job and Business Fair on May 1 and 2 simultaneously in Gaisano Mall of Davao and SM City Davao. In order to better encourage hiring on the spot, there will be pre-registration and mini jobs fair that will be conducted prior to the TNK fair itself. This will be on the same malls from April 26 to 30.

A total of 11,882 job vacancies both local and overseas will be offered to the applicants. With this initiative, Ayala said they wish to help lessen the 4.6 percent unemployment rate and the 17.8 percent underemployment of Davao Region as of January this year.

On the other hand, nurses are still the most in-demand jobs overseas with 1,933 vacancies. It was followed by sales associate with 200, assistant herd manager in New Zealand with 174, waiters and waitresses with 120, and English teachers in Japan with 113.

Cleaners (112 vacancies), household service workers (100), welders (100), general laborers (90), and engineers (40) were also included in the top 10 mostly in-demand overseas jobs in Davao Region. This makes up the 2,982 vacancies for the top 10 overseas job vacancies.
