315 bets file certificates of candidacy in Bacolod

IN THE third day of the filing of certificates of candidacy (COC) in Bacolod City, at least 315 candidates running for barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) posts filed their COC at the Commission on Elections (Comelec) office at the Bacolod Arts, Youth and Sports (Bays) Center.

City Election Registrar Mavil Majarucon-Sia said Monday that from April 14 to 16, a total of 29 candidates filed their COCs for the post of barangay captain, 238 for barangay kagawad, 11 for SK chairman, and 37 candidates for SK kagawad.

She said starting April 17, the candidates can buy the documentary stamps at the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR).

Last week, there was a shortage of documentary stamps in Bacolod and some of the candidates failed to attach an official receipt on their COCs.

"To avoid any issue, please wait and buy the documentary stamps and it is now available at BIR," Majarucon-Sia said.

She said they are conducting an inventory on the COCs of the candidates to check the documentary stamps because it's part of the requirements.

Majarucon-Sia reminded the candidates to double check their COCs because some of them are filing wrong documents on the position that they are running for.

The COC should be on long size band paper with passport size picture.

The filing of COC will end on April 20, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and there will be no extension.

Majarucon-Sia said the lists of candidates will be forwarded to the law department of the Comelec to scrutinize the COCs.

She said the final lists of the candidates will be released before the campaign period on May 4.

Bacolod has a total of 294,854 registered voters for the barangay and SK elections. Of the number, 91,549 are SK voters.

Comelec will also hold a briefing for the members of the electoral board at the Government Center today. (MAP)
