Province to clear sides of highways

THE Cebu Provincial Government will create a task force that will remove illegally parked vehicles and structures along national roads.

Jonathan Tumulak, Cebu Provincial focal person for traffic management, said the inter-agency task force aims to address the perennial problem of illegal parking and structures on sidewalks along national highways and major thoroughfares.

The task force will be composed of traffic managers from the towns and cities of Metro Cebu, traffic police officers, Highway Patrol Group (HPG) 7 and officials of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) 7.

Tumulak said they will meet at the DPWH 7 office today to discuss the matter.

He said the task force was created after he secured the cooperation of DPWH 7 Director Ador Canlas.

During their meeting yesterday, Tumulak said that Canlas committed to assist the Provincial Government by providing legal assistance to the task force once they start their operations, although he didn’t say when they will start.

He urged vehicle owners and those who own structures along the side of national highways and major thoroughfares to remove these or face the consequences. (JKV)
