Toy hobbyists flock to 'Toy Show at Ketkai'

CAGAYAN DE ORO Toyzone staged the very first Toy Show in Northern Mindanao dubbed as “The CDO Toy Show 2015” last November 14 and 15.

The Limketkai Rotunda was chock-full of toy collectors, enthusiasts, and even regular mallgoers as they marveled at the numerous toys, action figures, and drones on display.

The two-day event served as an avenue for toy collectors and enthusiasts to come together and share their fervor for toys. Event organizer Kristoffer Liao said, “The purpose of the event is to promote the toy enthusiasts’ community in Cagayan de Oro City. The toys on display were from all over the world. Naa tay mga toys gikan Japan, gina-order pa nato na, mga high quality toys.”

Twenty-one exhibitors put on display their toy collection for the masses to see. Various figures from Gundam, Final Fantasy, The Seven Deadly Sins, Kantai Collection, Love Live!, The Idolmaster, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Slam Dunk, One Piece, Dragon Ball, and Sailor Moon, to name a few, had the manga and anime lovers going bonkers.

There were also action figures and toys from Superman, Batman, Aliens, Star Wars, Transformers, and even My Little Pony. Three life-sized cosplay of Iron Man armors courtesy of Mr. Aaron Arcay were also put up for the mallgoers to admire. There were also cute Nendoroids of favorite animes as well Hatsume Miku figures.

“Ang uban kay muabot pa ug tag P20,000, naa pod ta on display na mga drones na tag P150,000, so high quality figures na dili ninyo makita sa local malls,” added Kristoffer, “Ang highlight jud was the toy display.”

Aside from the toy display, kids and adults alike were also treated to a Let’s Go! Race Track, a Vanguard tournament, gumpaste figure making contest, cosplay competition, and a trivia competition.

The categories for the trivia contest included toymakers, Power Ranger poses, anime theme songs, and robot themed films to mention a few. “Basically everything related to toys and toy collections,” said Maia Poblete of Geek Wars, the group that conducts the free trivia night event every Wednesdays at Loreto’s Bar and Grill.

CDO Toy Show 2015 also served as a fundraising for the children under the care of DSWD’s Reception and Study Center for Children.

CdeO Toyzone plans to hold a Christmas party with cosplayers and dancers, food, as well as gifts of toys, books, and school supplies for the children and their house parents.
