MINERS from the Philippine Mine Safety and Environment Association show the importance of caring for the environment to the youth by tapping them as partner in planting trees at Botanical Garden on November 17.
Four schools in Baguio City which include the University of Baguio Laboratory Elementary School and Phases Learning Center joined in the tree planting activity wherein the students experienced being with the miners as their buddies in fulfilling a meaningful cause.
Proud to be part of the environmental project is Grade Six student Aiken Eugenriq Ramos, one of the 12 students from UBLES chosen to participate in the planting of at least 150 pine tree seedlings in the adopted park of the group.
Wearing a pusong minero pin every student with a partner miner enjoyed the event and learned more about their important role for the environmental protection.
“I am so happy to be chosen to be part of the tree planting. The activity gave me the chance to be able to contribute for the preservation of trees,” the 12-year-old boy said.
The tree planting is part of the activities for the 62nd Annual National Mine Safety Environment Conference being held in the city with the theme “62 years of responsible mining…united in creating relevant development for inclusive growth” which started on November 18 and ends today Friday.
Other highlights of the conference include the mining exhibit, minerals industry symposium, and the minerals industry parade and mine safety field demo and competitions today.
The protection and wise use of the environment is very important amidst all the many issues affecting our natural world today. May there be more people who will join the miners and students in supporting a more intensified campaign for environmental protection. Environmental protection should be a concern of everyone.
