APALIT -- A dump truck hit a concrete electric post at Barangay Sampaloc here early Sunday morning that caused a 19-hour brownout in six towns.
About 4:30 a.m., the towns of Minalin, Santo Tomas, San Simon, Apalit, Macabebe and Masantol experienced power outage. Power was restored 11 p.m. the same day.
Police Officer 1 Artem Tamsi said in a phone interview that the driver of the truck named Mark Mallari, 28, allegedly dozed off for around five to ten seconds while driving.
"Ang sabi ng driver nakaidlip daw siya ng mga five to ten seconds kasi galing sila ng Bataan papuntang Bulacan," Tamsi added.
Police stressed that the passenger of the driver sustained minor injuries due to the incident but no casualty was reported.
Gilbert Rodriguez, Network Services Division Engineer, said that it was the first time that a 69 kilovolt concrete pole was damaged.
He added that the owner of the truck has already settled the amount of the reported total damages on the concrete pole to the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) and Pampanga III Electric Cooperative.
Ernest Vidal, NGCP Regional Corporate Communications Officer, said that the damaged concrete pole was successfully replaced.
