Hong Kong on the table

HOW long since I sat on a round table with Hong Kongese food on the Lazy Susan? If the setting would be in Hong Kong then that would be more than five years ago. If it’s in another place but with an array of mouth-watering Oriental Cuisine whipped up by an award-winning Hong Kong national, then that would be very recent.

If you are foodie, the location won’t matter that much for you have the chef with you, a chef like Sunny Cheng.

Sunny Cheng aka Chef Yeung Kwan Cheng, is an award-winning chef in Hong Kong and has received distinction as Gold Awardee from the Best of the Best chefs. Up his sleeve is two decades of culinary experiences in international hotels. Currently, he is the man behind Marco Polo Ortigas’ Lung Hin, the much raved about Chinese restaurant in Manila. He was the Executive Chef of the Royal Pacific Hotel and City Garden.

The good news is he’s in town to cook for the food lovers of Davao. On the menu will be some of his signature Cantonese dishes like Jelly Fish with Chopped Spring Onion and Sesame Oil, Baked Tiger Prawns Szechuan Style, Stir-fried Black Vinegar-Marinated Beef with Sliced Garlic, and Sweet and Sour Pork with Blueberries.

Form the delicious spread I was able to taste, the Deep-fried Squid with Mashed Salted Eggs and Seasonings landed on the top of my list. It was love at first bite, and I don’t mind going biting on it again and again until the chef leaves town.

You won’t go wrong on any of the two desserts. In fact, go for both! The Chilled Avocado Sago and the Chilled Mango Pudding are very light desserts with just a hint of sweetness that doesn’t overpower the flavors of the tropical fruits the dessert highlights.

You see, you don’t have to fly all the way to Hong Kong to enjoy a an authentic Chinese fare, just head to Marco Polo’s Lotus court and “Experience the Taste of Hong Kong with Chef Sunny Cheng”.This is just the second wave of the Chinese Chef series the Marco Polo Davao will be showcasing. This gig with Chef Sunny will run until April 21.

Head to the Lotus Court and have a taste of Hong Kong. Plus, you get to have your fill of the best buchi in the world! How’s that for a double treat?
