Indahag Lady Skyhawks soar anew at 11th Loyola Cup Interschool hoopfest

REGIONAL Meet-bound Indahag Lady Skyhawks start its campaign in the 11th Loyola Cup Inter-School basketball on a bright note.

The Skyhawks, who also reigned in 1st Speed Inter-Public School hoopfest, defeated their college counterparts Xavier University Crusaders, 54-50 in women’s category of the Loyola Cup which resumes here on Saturday at the Xavier University gym.

“Of course, the XU women have the edge experience-wise. But Indahag’s scoring machine spell the difference,” said tournament commissioner Arvin Martinez, simply overwhelmed by the 33-point rampage of Baylosis that put to waste the productive numbers of Dael, Baculio and Banuag.

The host squad used to beat Indahag in previous tune-up matches. But with Baylosis’ gun ablazing, there was no stopping the Lady Skyhawks from conquering greater heights.

The other public school, Carmen National High School also made a triumphant debut, outlasting Merry Child School, 66-59 in the 18-under category.

It was such an exciting tiff, featuring the `Terence Romeo-like ball handling’ of Carmen’s Mantalaba and the slam-dunking prowess of Merry Child’s Vacalares.

In under-13 class, the Cubed Stallions almost upset the Sacred Heart Saints behind the impressive showing of Chua and Abellanosa. But the Saints kept their cool and composure in the homestretch to prevail, 46-40.

In under-15 level, Paras led the Crusaders’ assault to crush the AMS Jaguars, 86-56 despite the presence of the 6-foot-1 Yo Ocangas.

The AMS Jaguars’ 18-under bets, however, retaliated at the expense of SMS Fiat, 77-69 with Calahat, Mutya, Roxas and Halasan rattling off 19, 17, 11 and 10 points each.

Meanwhile, the CCS Knights extended St. Mary’s woe on Sunday with a 44-41 victory.

Coach Carlo Dagalea’s tandem of Abada and Lim spearheaded Corpus Christi’s 11-under triumph with 23 and 15 markers each.

SMS got 20 and 14 from Ormillada and Dumadag, respectively.

“Their players are skilled and fairly competitive but just lacking with exposure,” Martinez said of the greenhorn Professional World Academy Blue Marlins who incurred a 50-131 beating at the hands of MUST Mustangs in the college division.
