Village official falls in Zambo Sur drug bust

AGENTS of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) backed by policemen and soldiers have arrested a village official in a drug bust operation in Zamboanga del Sur, a top police official reported Friday.

Senior Superintendent Michael Nicolas, Zamboanga del Sur police director, identified the arrested suspect as Ibrahim Abas, 30, a village councilor of Boyugan West, Kumalarang municipality.

Nicolas said Abas was arrested in an operation around 2 p.m. Wednesday at Purok 1 in the village of Boyugan West, Kumalarang.

Superintendent Nicolas said Abas was arrested after he sold a sachet of methamphetamine hydrochloride locally known as shabu in exchange for P500 to an undercover PDEA agent.

He said the arresting team confiscated from the suspect's possession three sachets of shabu, P500 "marked money," and other prohibited drug paraphernalia.

The suspect was detained while appropriate charges are set to be filed against him, he added.
