Bantiloc to open bid in 8th ASEAN Paragames

BAGUIO City’s wheelchair archer Agustina Bantiloc joins the Philippine delegation in the 2015 Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) ParaGames which starts Thursday in Singapore.

Bantiloc is looking to improve on her bronze medal performance last year as she competes in the biennial sports race patterned after the Summer and Winter Paralympic Games of America and Europe.

It will be Bantiloc’s third time to compete in archery since 2011, when she won her first bronze despite the little time she had shifting from her former sport, powerlifting.

Last year, she was accompanied by fellow PWD archer Allan Campos in Myanmar where she took home another bronze.

“We are hoping she will be landing a better spot this time around,” archery coach John Hongitan told Sun.Star Baguio.

According to Hongitan, Bantiloc will be accompanied by another PWD archer Giovanni Ola who will act as her aid and coach.

“Hopefully hindi siya masyadong maging dehado when it comes to equipment, last year kasi despite having a programmed training sa equipment natalo ang mga entries natin,” he said.

Bantiloc, a native of Kalinga, will join 66 other Pinoy PWD athletes in Singapore and will be competing in the women’s wheel-chaired category.

The Philippines is also competing in athletics, powerlifting, swimming, table tennis, badminton, chess, 10-pin bowling, sailing, and wheelchair basketball.

Last year, the Philippines collected 20 gold, 19 silver and 21 bronze medals to finish sixth overall behind Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam and Myanmar.
