ASIAN Football Confederation (AFC) Cup-bound Ceres-La Salle FC has signed up national squad midfielder Kevin Ingreso as its newest addition.
James Dinsay, manager of the Bacolod-based club, said yesterday that signing up the 22-year-old Fil-German will help Ceres in its campaign in next year’s AFC tournament and also in the 2016 Season of United Football League.
Ingreso last suited up for SV Drochtersen/Assel in Germany where he scored two goals in 11 appearances. He was called up for the national team's 2018 Fifa World Cup qualifier campaign.
The newly-acquired midfielder traces his roots in Cavite. His father Dennis is a Filipino while his mother is a German.
Ingreso started his pro-career in Germany with Hambuger SV II from 2011-2013 and later with VfR Neumünster from 2013 to 2015
Before playing in the national team, Ingreso also played for the German U15 side in 2008.
Meanwhile, top Ceres FC officials will fly to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia next week for the official draw of the AFC Cup on December 10 to 12.
“Hopefully, we will get a good draw for AFC Cup. I think Ceres team now can surprise a lot of teams in AFC,” said club director and mentor Ali Rojas Go.
“The draw will be a big factor here. Our target is to make to the next round of the group stage – the knockout round. With the home games in Negros, we can have a good chance,” he added.
The club will undergo rigid preparation for these two major tournaments next year. Ceres FC will play three home matches in the AFC Cup elimination.
Negros Occidental Football Association president Ricky Yanson said they have to ensure that the hosting, including the facilities, meets the requirement of the AFC.
