SRP needs more roads, says Rama

CEBU City Mayor Michael Rama wants six infrastructure projects to be implemented at the South Road Properties (SRP).

The projects include bridges and widening of roads that will connect the 300-hectare property to the main city.

In a media leaders interactive forum, he organized at City Hall last week, Rama said he wants Jaca St. in Barangay Inayawan widened. He also wants a bridge to connect Inayawan to the SRP.

He also wants bridges that will connect Barangays Poblacion Pardo, Basak San Nicolas, Duljo Fatima and Ermita to SRP.

Aside from this, he wants the Mambaling Access Road to be widened.

“We will make the lives of the poor better,” the mayor said.

The widening of the Mambaling road is a project that is also being pushed by SM Prime Holdings Inc., one of the investors at the SRP, who is constructing a mall in the area.

SM said there is a need to widen the Mambaling road to increase accessibility to the SRP and improve traffic management in the area by decongesting the volume of vehicles along the coastal and Mambaling roads.

SM said the volume of traffic at the SRP is expected to significantly increase once their mall, which sits on their 30-hectare SM Seaside City complex, will open in the last quarter of the year.

The widening of the Mambaling area is also in anticipation of the operation of the high quality public transport at the SRP by SM.

Rama has already instructed SRP Management Office (SRPMO) chief Roberto Varquez to handle the infrastructure projects.

The SRPMO will look into the funding for the projects.
