Pampanga Day celebration kicks off

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- The provincial government of Pampanga officially starts the 44th Aldo Ning Kapampangan today, Monday, with a host of events like civic military parade, culinary and festival presentations.

The events of the day will be followed by a joint creative flag raising ceremonies and the lighting at six in the evening at the Pampanga Capitol compound.

Governor Lilia Pineda is expected to lead the celebrations along with provincial government officials.

The Aldo Ning Kapampangan commemorates the founding of Pampanga as a province.

Pampanga, according to history, was the first province and the richest spoil created by the Spaniards in 1571.

It was named after the Indung Kapampangan River, the largest river in the former empire. Ancient Pampanga’s territorial area used to include portions of the provinces of Bataan, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Pangasinan, Tarlac and Zambales in the big Island of Luzon of the Philippine Archipelago.

Pampanga, one of the richest provinces in the Philippines, was re-organized as a province by the Spaniards on December 11, 1571.

For governmental control and taxation purposes, the Spanish authorities subdivided Pampanga into towns (pueblos), which were further subdivided into districts (barrios) and in some cases into royal and private estates (encomiendas).

The second day will feature a Thanksgiving Mass for the feast of the Immaculate Concepcion and this will be followed by Aldo Ding Senior Citizens and Persons With Disabilities.

On Day 3, December 9, the activities for the day include the Aldo Ning Department of Labor and Employment Job Fair, Aldo Ding Barangay Officials, Aldo Ding Mangangalakal (scavengers) and Kapampangan Youth Band concert.

On December 10 will be the coronation night of Mutya Ning Kapampangan. Aldo Ding Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) will be also held.

On December 11, from 5 p.m. onwards, the Most Outstanding Kapampangan awards will be given out in the traditional program at the Bren Z. Guiao Convention Center.
