CANDABA -- Officials and workers of the 33 barangays here received their early Christmas gifts under the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa ating Displaced workers (Tupad) program of the local government.

Around 2,000 barangay workers including village chiefs, councilmen, secretaries, bookkeepers and bantay bayans received their cash-for-work salaries through the joint efforts of the municipal government and Butil Party-list.

Officials and “justices of peace” received P1,000 each while bantay-bayans got P5,000 each after their canal clearing operations, said Butil Party-list Representative Agapito Guanlao.

The partylist gave a P1-million share to the municipal government for the said program.

According to Mayor Rene Maglanque, the LGU got some P1.1 million after the tax deduction and purchasing some materials needed for the distribution rites.

The LGU, for its part, released P900,000 as counterpart for the salaries of the workers.

Guanlao and Maglanque, together with some local officials led the simultaneous distribution of cash at Mandasig Covered Court.
