ARAYAT -- The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) here has been put on alert and is keenly monitoring the situation in Mount Arayat as Typhoon "Nona" continues to dump rain in Pampanga and several parts of Central Luzon.
MDRRMO head Ricky Mallari said their team is on standby at the area of Barangay San Juan Baño if any disaster, like a landslide, occurs.
"Nakabantay na kami lalo na sa mga landslide-prone areas particularly in Barangay San Juan Baño," said Mallari.
While the situation is still manageable, the MDRRMO head said they are keeping the alert status against landslides, which killed several residents along the slopes of the mountain several years ago.
"We are also confident that there will be a lesser chance of landslides due to the greening project of the municipal government. But we are ready anytime," he said.
Mallari added that as of Wednesday, no barangay was submerged in floodwater and all major roads were still passable.
Meanwhile, Mayor Emmanuel Alejandrino instructed the MDRRMO to prepare the evacuation sites here as a preventive measure.
"We are ready for pre-emptive evacuation as per instruction of the mayor," Mallari said.
