THE Highway Patrol Group (HPG) in Davao Region and the Davao City Transportation and Traffic Management Office (CTTMO) are deploying more personnel to assist all traveling vehicles during the holiday season.
HPG Davao Region director Superintendent Joy Andrade said that more police personnel are manning the highways to promote accident-free and crime prevention involving vehicles during the holidays.
"Mas lalo tayong alert. Police presence along the highways," Andrade told reporters during the AFP-PNP press conference held yesterday morning at The Ritz Hotel at Garden Oases.
He said they are engaging the public through an information campaign by distributing leaflets and placement of posters in all places of convergence particularly in bus terminals, shopping malls, commercial establishments, and even along the highways.
The information drive, according to Andrade, is in line with their Oplan Alalay' for the Christmas season.
"We did this for everyone to have a safe travel as well as assist all traveling commuters during this season," Andrade said.
Andrade reminded all public and private vehicles to observe safety tips on traveling to avoid road accidents even crimes involving highway robbery and carnapping.
"Peak season kasi kaya we are deploying more police personnel to address the traffic situation as well as monitor those violators of the traffic rules," he added.
"We will put more personnel on mall and church areas to avoid a heavy flow of traffic," CTTMO head Rogelio Poliquit said in an interview.
Poliquit added that there will be one mobile in each of the big Churches in the city, including the San Pedro Cathedral and Redemptorist Church as people are expected to flock for the Misa de Gallo worship on December 16 until 24.
He also added the CTTMO will conduct traffic direction and control on Jose P. Laurel Avenue in Bajada where a downpour of shoppers are expected because of the holiday sales and promotions. (CCC/KRP)
