Sun.Star spreads holiday cheer as it celebrates 7th anniversary

SUN.STAR Bacolod has turned 7 years old under the present management.

The week-long celebration from December 14 to 19, with the theme, “Shining Brighter at 7,” is marked with a gift-giving activity at a Gawad Kalinga village in Bacolod, and a daily raffle at its exhibit/booth in a mall.

The gift-giving is held in partnership with the Rotary Club of Bacolod-East (RCBE), while the exhibit/booth is supported by SM City Bacolod.

On Monday, the Editorial and Marketing staff opened the exhibit/ booth at the new wing of SM City. Gracing the opening ceremonies were Acting Bacolod Mayor Greg Gasataya, former Bacolod vice mayor Renecito Novero, who represented Bacolod Rep. Evelio Leonardia, and Provincial Capitol executive assistant Eric Loretizo, representing Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr.

Also joining the opening were Negros Press Club president Dolores Epacta, SM Supermalls vice president for operations in the Visayas Joy Veloso, mall manager George Jardiolin, assistant mall manager Julia Javellana, and PR manager May Castro.

Publication staff members of Negros Occidental High School, Domingo Lacson National High School, Bata National High School, and Bacolod City National High School, and Mass Communications students of the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos were also present.

Since Monday, Sun.Star staff has been giving out free copies of newspapers to the first 100 mall goers visiting the booth. Visitors also get to win various giveaways. There are also three daily winners of free three-month subscription of the paper. The booth runs until today, Friday.

On Wednesday, Sun.Star, led by publisher Jaime Golez, and RCBE, led by its president Dr. Benjamin Souribio, sponsored a Christmas gift-giving activity for 200 parents and children of Purok ERH-Gawad Kalinga Village in Barangay Sum-ag Bacolod City. The kids received toys, while the parents received gift packs and clothes.

Editor-in-chief Nanette Guadalquiver said the 7th anniversary of Sun.Star is an “affirmation and renewal of our commitment to our readers in Bacolod and Negros Occidental.” 

Sun.Star Bacolod belongs to the largest network of community newspapers in the country, with 11 affiliates: Baguio, Cagayan de Oro, Cebu, Davao, Dumaguete, Iloilo, Manila, Pampanga, Pangasinan, Tacloban, and Zamboanga.

The anniversary celebration will be capped with a Christmas/Thanksgiving Party tomorrow, Dec. 19, at Nature’s Village Resort Hotel and Restaurant in Talisay City.
