Power supply still cut in 3 provinces due to 'Nona'

POWER supply remains unrestored in three provinces in the country Thursday due to the onslaught of Typhoon Nona (Melor).

In its 7 p.m. Thursday update, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) said the provinces of Northern Samar, Nueva Ecija and Sorsogon still have no electricity.

For Northern Samar, the affected areas are Allen, Bobon, Catarman, Catubig, Gamay, Lao-ang, Las Navas, Lavezares, Lope de Vega, Mondragon, Palapag, Pambuhan, Rosario, San Isidro, San Jose, San Roque, San Antonio and Victoria.

For Nueva Ecija, the areas that experienced power outages on Wednesday are Cabiao, Gapan, Jaen, San Antonio and San Isidro.

Other areas in Nueva Ecija also lost power on Thursday. These include Aliaga, Quezon, Licab, Guimba, Talugtog, Science City of Muñoz, CLSU, Lupao, Carrangalan, Talavera, Natividad, Llanera, Palayan, Bongabon, Gabaldon, Laur, Rizal, Daingalan, San Luis, Maria, Baler, Dipaculao and Pantabangan.

For Sorsogon, the areas that are yet to be re-energized are Bulan, Matnog, Sta. Magdalena, Irosin, Bulusan, Juban, Casiguran, Magallanes, Gubat, Prieto Diaz, Barcelona, Pilar, Castilla, Donsol and Bacon.

The identified areas in Northern Samar and Sorsogon experienced power outage on Monday.

Meanwhile, NGCP said that it restored power in Aurora on Thursday, particularly in Dingalan, San Luis, Maria, Baler and Dipaculao.

It said it “has mobilized its line crews to conduct aerial and ground inspection and assess the impact of the typhoon to its operations and facilities.”

NGCP said the loss of power could be caused by either transmission lines or distribution lines. But it assured that it has implemented preparations to minimize the impact of the typhoon on its operations and facilities.

The precautions include ensuring supply of hardware materials to repair damaged facilities and positioning of line crews in strategic areas. (PNA)
