Davao resorts, hotels urged to use PH architecture

AN OFFICIAL from the Department of Tourism (DOT) urges hotels and resorts in Davao Region to push for a Filipino architecture to attract foreigners to stay here.

In a conference on Friday at the Waterfront Insular Hotel, DOT Davao regional director Roberto Alabado III said, "Yakapin ang kulturang Filipino sa hotels and resorts dahil iyon ang gusto ng mga dumarayo."

As part of the DOT's thrust to position the region on the international scene, Alabado is suggesting businessmen to stick with the local art and design as foreigners crave to discover what makes the country unique among the others.

"Let us show them our coconuts, beaches, and wooden crafts because this is what tourism is," he said.

He also cited Waterfront Insular Hotel as one of the few hotels here which embodies how it is like to live in the Philippines.

The hotel, opened in 1961, was designed by National Artist for Architecture Leandro Locsin.

Hotel Manager, Bryan Lasala also announced Friday that they are going to acquire new facilities and improve structures to provide a better experience for their guests and visitors.

"We are currently adding more to our garden pavilion so the clients can enjoy better relaxation here," Lasala furthered.
