Race organizers cancel 2015 Radar Run

ORGANIZERS of the 2015 Radar Run 5 & 10 Miles Race announced Monday the cancellation of the December 30 event due the restriction on the use of the route going up Mt. Cabuyao, Benguet.

Despite having the green light from concerned authorities a week before the sports activity, race organizers were ordered to postpone or better to cancel the event under the Court of Appeals ruling on a cease and desist order from issuing permits for any kind of activities in the said area.

In his Facebook post, race director Jonel Mendoza Jr. made his sincere apology to all the participants, volunteers, and supporters for the cancelation of the event.

“We sincerely apologize for the earlier announcement made as we got another nod from the authorities concerned over the weekend, only to be told again today (December 28) that we would have to postpone the event to a later date,” Mendoza wrote.

“It is regrettable that all race collaterals for distribution to the participants have been prepared, but the interest of our runners and supporters is our utmost concern at this point,” he added.

It was known the foot race organized by front RUNNER magazine was successfully held for the past four years in the same route.

All the previous activities made clear to its guidelines that all participants will comply with the “leave no trace theme” of sports activity emphasizing on the no littering campaign of its organizers.

Mendoza posted reimbursements for all those who registered will be readily available which started Monday at the Laperal Building in Session Road.

It can be remembered earlier in May, the CA issued a Writ of Kalikasan declaring the surrounding area of Mt. Cabuyao located in Sto. Tomas as protected environmental area.

It was stated that all kinds of activities within the Mt. Sto. Tomas forest reserve, including but not limited to operation and businesses therein and utilizing the place for filming and movies and television shows shall be prohibited until further notice or unless given clearance by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
