Peace journalism training set

THE United States Assistance for International Development's Enhancing Governance, Accountability and Engagement (USAid-Engage), in partnership with the local government, announced the 2nd Peace Journalism Training and Internship program that would start on May 7 until June 5, this year.

Jules Benitez, USAid-Engage municipal and community engagement officer, said Wednesday that the project will include a three-day intensive training on peace journalism and a 20-day internship in local media establishments.

Benitez said the training intends to build the capacities of the selected youth for peace building through the mass media.

"This is in cognizance of the print media and the media establishments' in general as potential mechanism for promoting peace," Benitez said.

Expected participants are 18 campus journalists who demonstrate strong communication skills from universities and colleges that offer Mass Communication Program in Zamboanga City.

The peace journalism training is scheduled from May 7 to 9, while the internship program starts May 11. (Bong Garcia)
