PEOPLE passing through the parking area of Limketkai Mall and shopping in Savemore in Barangay Lapasan were caught by surprise by a bomb drill initiated by the Cagayan de Oro City Police (Cocpo) last Saturday, January 2.
Loud explosions simulating bomb blasts were set off at the Limketkai Mall parking area followed by another explosion in Savemore in Barangay Lapasan to test the readiness of first responders to attend to injuries found in emergency situations.
Police authorities, the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC), Philippine Army, Philippine Red Cross and other agencies took part in the bomb drill, the second such drill.
Even hospitals participated in the activity to show how they are able to receive and treat the injured .
Authorities initiated the bomb drill to raise the readiness of first responders.
City Public Safety Company (CSPC) Commander Police Superintendent Roy Magsalay said Saturday’s drill was well-coordinated with all stakeholders in the city.
“Ang importance ani is unsaon nato pag-respond sa bombing incident,” Magsalay said.
The drill, Magsalay said, is part of authorities efforts to prevent a repeat of the July 26, 2013 Limketkai bombing.
An improvised explosive device (IED) exploded at a restaurant in Rosario Arcade near Limketkai Mall on July 26, 2013, killing leaving eight people dead and injuring 48 others.
Authorities subsequently linked the 2013 bombingto the slain Malaysian bomb maker Zulkifli bin Hir, also known as Marwan, who was killed in a January 25, 2015 police raid in Mamasapano, Maguindanao.
