PRO 7 probing stray bullet cases

THE Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 is investigating the five incidents of stray bullets to identify the gun owners.

Senior Supt. Rey Lyndon Lawas said the slugs will undergo examination in the crime laboratory.

The PRO 7 directorial staff chief further said criminal complaints will be lodged against those persons who are proven to have fired their firearms during the Christmas and New Year’s Day celebration.

The incidents of indiscriminate firing happened in Cebu City, Mandaue City and Baclayon, Bohol.

In Cebu City, three persons including a 12-year-old minor were rushed to different hospitals.

Lawas also led other officials yesterday in untaping the muzzles of firearms and the destruction of more than P500,000 worth of prohibited firecrackers confiscated from Dec. until Jan. 2 on the PRO 7 grounds in Cebu City.

Some of the firecrackers that were destroyed were piccolo, pla-pla, pop-pop, super lolo, thunder, hotdog, judas belt, imported firecrackers, whistle bomb, color flash thunder shots, dragon baby armalite, dragon eggs, five star, triangle, sky rocket and shotgun.

Lawas urged the public to report to them any police officer who fired a gun during the revelry.

Records from PRO 7 showed that more than 50 persons suffered firecracker-related injuries.

Lawas, however, said some of the injured persons were wounded after their neighbors threw firecrackers at them.
