5th Awum opens registration today

THE All-Women Ultra-Marathon is now on the horizon as the registration for the fifth edition starts today.

The runners can register online starting today at 8.a.m., and take one of the 250 limited slots for the highly-anticipated women's event slated on March 12. Last year, all the 250 slots were taken after the registration opened in three hours and 18 minutes.

With the slots sold like hotcakes in the previous edition, runners are encouraged to follow registration procedures online to prevent glitches in the registration process.

The AWUM, which is a 50-kilometer ultra-marathon for women, is now on its fifth year. It is staged every March in celebration of Women's Month.

For this year, the organizers are planning to start the race at the Senior Citizens’ Park in Cebu City and end it at the Il Corso, South Road Properties.

The 2015 edition of Awum started at Cebu City Hall grounds with 255 runners and ended at the Family Park in Talamban, Cebu City with 247 finishers. Sandra Soliano won that year after besting her training partner Preciosa Sanchez with just milliseconds separating the two ultra runners.

One of the organizers and president of the Cebu Ultra Runners Club (CUC) Tony Galon told Sun.Star Cebu yesterday that they will release the final route for the 2016 AWUM after the registration period. The race will start at 10 p.m. and will have a 10-hour cut-off time.

The registration fee for the ultra-marathon is pegged at P1,500 inclusive of a personalized race bib, standard kit and a meal.
