It’s no smoking during Sinulog

WITH more people visiting the City for the Sinulog, the Cebu City Environmental and Sanitation Enforcement Team (Ceset) reminded the public that no environmental law in the city has been lifted.

Ceset chief Grace Luardo said they will strictly implement the anti-littering and anti-smoking ordinances in public places, particularly in plazas where revelers are expected to converge with their families.

City Ordinance (CO) 2241, or the Comprehensive Anti-Smoking Ordinance of the City of Cebu, prohibits smoking in public places.

Violators will be fined P1,500.

CO 1361, the ordinance establishing a system of garbage collection in the city, also prohibits indiscriminate throwing of garbage.

Those caught will be fined P500.

Luardo said they will operate 24 hours a day starting today.

At least seven teams were deployed in different areas to apprehend violators.

Luardo has issued a memorandum addressed to their personnel that no one will be allowed to go on leave. Absences are also discouraged.

“Strict gyod ta nga mo-implement ani (We will be strict about this),” Luardo warned.

Ceset also installed No Smoking signs in different areas in the city.

Huge volume of garbage has been the concern of the City Government after every Sinulog celebration.

The City asked business establishments to follow guidelines for solid waste management.

Luardo said store owners are required to clean their areas and make sure garbage is placed in the containers for disposal and properly segregated.

They are also required to follow the schedule of disposal of garbage.

Business establishments who will fail to follow the guidelines will be issued citation tickets, Luardo warned.
