Most wanted's link to mall heist probed

THE Davao City Police Office (DCPO) on Thursday said they are now digging deeper in their investigation to determine whether the top 10 most wanted suspect in Bunawan area who was arrested on Wednesday in Davao City has any involvement in the robbery incident at a jewelry shop inside a shopping mall in Tagum City.

DCPO spokesperson Chief Inspector Milgrace Cajes Driz said they will check the closed circuit television (CCTV) footage and the facial composites of the two other suspects released by the Police Regional Office (PRO) in Davao Region to validate whether suspect has any connection with the seven suspects armed with short and long firearms believed to be members of `Martilyo Gang' responsible for the jewelry store robbery incident.

It can be recalled that personnel from the Bunawan police led by its station commander Chief Inspector Jesus Castaneda in coordination with the DCPO's Swat team and the Panabo City police led by Senior Inspector Maricar Bornea served the arrest warrant issued by Judge Dax Gonzaga Xenos of the Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 34 in Panabo City against the suspect identified as Edwin Yray Cornetes, 43, and a resident of Barangay Tibungco, Bunawan District.

Cornetes is considered as among the top 10 most wanted personalities in the area of responsibility (AOR) of the Bunawan police station.

"Palawman pa nato atong imbestigasyon bahin kung naay connection ning suspect sa grupo na niransact sa jewelry shop sa Tagum City (We are now conducting an in-depth investigation on the possible connection of Cornets in the Tagum City incident)," Driz told Sun.Star Davao in an interview at her office Thursday morning.

But Driz said that all police operations against all the most wanted personalities of DCPO will still continue.
