Ucan on watch for Energreen move

ENERGREEN Power Development and Management Inc. was expected to start supplying power to the Central Negros Electric Cooperative (Ceneco) on Tuesday, January 26, and the Utilities Consumer Alliance in Negros (Ucan) watching the development closely.

“Let us see until midnight of January 27 if there is really a delivery from Energreen,” said Ucan legal counsel Vicente Petierre III.

David Tan, technical consultant of Energreen project firm Central Negros Power Reliability Inc. (Cenpri), said last January 18 that Energreen would start the commercial operation of its 18.9-megawatt diesel or blended fuel power plant located in Barangay Calumangan, Bago City, on January 26.

He added that Power Unit 2 would start its operation first, to be followed by Power Unit 1 on January 29. The third power engine will operate on February 26; fourth engine, April 26; and the spare unit, June 25.

Moreover, Petierre asked, “If they will deliver power, do they have a grid? Is it 18.9 megawatts?”

“Ucan is happy if the delivery of power will happen, but we are not happy about the price,” he said.

Michelle Visera, Corporate Communications and Public Affairs Officer of the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) in Negros Occidental, said that Unit No. 2 of Energreen synchronized with the grid of the NGCP at 2 p.m. Tuesday, but it was still under test and commissioning.

Ceneco itself did not confirm if Energreen had already delivered power.

Ucan had earlier filed a motion for reconsideration before the Energy Regulatory Commission, questioning the extended provisional authority given to Energreen despite the latter’s failure to deliver power supply to Ceneco on the scheduled dates since November 2014. (CNC)
