CanCham adds category to int’l ICT awards

THE Canadian Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines (CanCham), in association with Information Technology and Business Process Association of the Philippines (IBPAP) will widen the scope of its annual International ICT Awards Philippines, which is slated on March 22, 2016 at the Marriott Hotel Newport City, Pasay by launching a new award category.

The new category, “Participants’ Choice – Most Popular Team Leader”, was launched in Davao City on Thursday at the Marco Polo Hotel.

“The new award category will definitely bring excitement and fun in the event,” Julian Payne, Cancham president said adding that they decided to add another category because they felt the need of recognizing the individuals who are the front liners.

The new category will be the first time where participants will use an interactive ICT application to solicit votes from registered attendees in the event and from all sponsors.

“Anyone can join the new category under the specific standards, voting will be done online through email, one email is to one vote, after the deadline which is on March 15, we will pick six finalists and from that another voting will be conducted during the event to determine the most popular Team Leader,” he said.

He added that to encourage voting during the event, a raffle will be organized.

Other major awards to be filled during the event are: Best Company of the Year, Best Employer of the Year, Best Filipino-owned Company of the Year, Best Company of the Year Outside NCR, Best Global In-house Center of the Year, Most Innovative Company of the Year, Best Voice Excellence Company of the Year, Best Emerging IT-BPM Company for Creatives, Best Emerging IT-BPM Company for Healthcare, Best Emerging IT-BPM Company for Finance and Accounting, Best Software Company of the Year, Best Philippine Mobile App of the Year and Best ICT CEO of the Year.

Special awards like Individual Contributor of the Year and Hall of Fame will also be given. For its 10th year, organizers are expecting more nominees coming from companies outside the National Capital Region (NCR).

“There is good participation from ICT firms for the previous years and we hope to double that by this year, we want more from outside,” Payne said.

Last year, the event was attended by over industry leaders from the ICT and other business sectors in and outside the country while over a hundred nominations were received for the 14 major categories.

Meanwhile, organizers will showcase anew the next wave cities through the “Cities for ICT” highlighting the cities in a more ICT approach getting rid of usual booths commonly obser4ved during usual fairs.

“As Davao is one of the emerging hubs for ICT expansion we would love to see again Davao to be part of the “Cities for ICT,” he said underscoring that “Cities for ICT” will be a side event during the awarding activity.

“With this “Cities for ICT”, we will be giving a great opportunity for cities to showcase and highlight their ICT industry inside their city. It will be a perfect way of displaying their potential as an ICT hub to the rest of world because during the ICT awards, almost all of the global ICT players, and other shakers and movers in the industry will be present,” he added. Payne is rooting on the emerging ICT cities to participate namely Davao, Cagayan de Oro, General Santos City, Bacolod, Cebu, Naga, Iloilo and Naga, among others.
